Advisory Council

2012 Meeting Schedule

The Lewis-Mason-Thurston Area Agency on Aging is a governmental agency sponsored by the three counties to manage, monitor, plan, fund, coordinate and advocate for services and programs that serve the elderly and younger disabled persons.

The Agency, also known as the LMTAAA, has an eighteen member Advisory Council that provides input and advice to the Agency staff and makes funding and legislative recommendations to the Agency and the Agency’s Board. The Board, called the Council of Governments (CoG), is made up of a commissioner from each of the three counties. The Commissioners currently serving are: Ron Averill, Lewis County; Cathy Wolfe, Thurston County; and Steve Bloomfield, Mason County.

The LMTAAA seeks volunteers with experience and personal interest in issues facing seniors and younger disabled people in the community. An ability to participate and regularly attend monthly meetings is a consideration. Six people from each county are appointed to a two-year term and can be re-appointed up to three terms.

The Council meets the first Wednesday of each month at the AAA office in Olympia from approximately 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Members are assigned to committees covering such topics as health promotion, small project support and public information. Members are not paid, but automobile mileage is covered to offset the cost of attending meetings.

To apply for appointment when a space is available, download the application below. You can also contact Dennis Mahar, LMTAAA Director at 360-664-2168 for an application, and to get more information. Advisory Council meetings are open to the public and you are encouraged to attend to learn more about the Council.

Council members offer a tremendous value to the Area Agency on Aging and in return, they will learn a great deal about our State’s aging and long term care system. Volunteering for this assignment is an excellent way to use your experience and knowledge to serve the whole community.
