Food Help Can Cover More Than Meals

March is Senior Nutrition Month

Getting enough food can be hard for different reasons.

March 2, 2026

Sometimes, you cannot get a ride to the store, your body will not let you shop, or groceries cost too much. If any of this sounds like you, food support can make daily life feel doable again.

Food support that fits your needs

1) Home-delivered meals

Meal delivery programs can bring food to your door, saving time and energy. Some programs offer meals designed by registered dietitians or tailored for chronic health needs.

Medicare and Medicaid plans may help cover costs. An assessment may be required first.

LMTAAA's Aging & Disability Resource Connection (ADRC) team can guide you through options. Call 360-664-2168 to connect with a specialist.

2) Group meals

Eat with others and stay connected with your community through a congregate meal. Explore sharing a meal at a local senior center with our Resource Directory at: lmtaaa.org/resources.

3) Food banks

Food banks can also provide needed nutrition. Turn to LMTAAA’s online Resource Directory for locations near you. Keep in mind that days and hours can change so confirm first before you visit.

4) Transportation resources

If you have trouble getting around, or don't have a car, that can also make getting food hard. LMTAAA can help you find the resources to get there, from accessible transportation to travel buddies. Start by visiting lmtaaa.org/transportation.

5) Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP)

Each summer, SFMNP offers a no-cost benefit to thousands of eligible older adults. The funds can be used at participating local farmer’s markets to purchase fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs and honey.

Seniors must meet age and income requirements to take part. Find out more, including when applications open for 2026, at: lmtaaa.org/farmersmarket.

6) Caregiver support

If you help someone else eat well, you deserve support, too. LMTAAA helps unpaid family caregivers with information, local referrals, and support group resources. Connect with LMTAAA’s Family Caregiver Support Program by calling 360-664-2168.
